Maria Agudelo: Nocturne
Invernadero presents Maria Agudelo: Nocturne, on view September 4 through October 4.
My work explores how symbols from existing narratives, religions, and rituals can exist outside of time or context. By using these symbols I form my own world of figures and myths. These paintings are not static imagery, but material recordings of an imagined universe, just as dreams exist outside of time within our own minds. I approached the paintings in a simple manner as opposed to inundating them with details. This way, the paintings become more approachable, not inaccessible.
Maria Agudelo (b. 1997, Cali, Colombia) lives in Baltimore, Maryland. She received her Bachelor of the Fine Arts at the Maryland Institute College of Art in 2020. Recently, she helped curate and was featured in Very Far Away, a two person exhibition at Fox 2 Gallery in Baltimore. Other notable exhibitions include Crosscurrents (2018) at the Pennsylvania Academy of the Fine Arts, and B_19 at the Baltimore City Hall Gallery.
